Validation

  • Designed per the CDC’s SOP for Viral Transport Media and Saline Solution

  • Unused media stable at room temperature for 12 months. Samples are stable at room temperature for 72 hours, and may be cryopreserved for longer periods of time.

For the collection, preservation, and transport of SARS-CoV-2 clinical specimens to a testing laboratory. Transport media serves as a culture media for non-propagating transport of specimens.

Media Type & Composition

VTM:

Sterile viral transport media with salts and antibiotics includes:

  • Hank’s Balanced Salts Solution (HBSS)

  • Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA)

  • HEPES Buffer

  • Gentamicin Sulfate

  • Vancomycin

  • Amphotericin B

Saline Solution: 8.5g NaCl per 1.0 liter water

Media and Virus Stability

  • Unused media may be transported and stored at room temperature, 18°C - 25°C.

  • Shelf life of unused media is 12 months.

  • After collection, samples may be stored and transported at room temperature for up to 72 hours.

  • If samples must be stored longer than 72 hours, it is recommended to cryopreserve them at -70°C.
